Welcome to the HCYA Warriors High School Swim Team! We are excited to offer a competitive swim team for swimmers of home-directed education in Greater Houston and the surrounding areas. Founded in 2012, HCYA Swimming continues to expand a competitive base in the Texas high school swim community, and we welcome swimmers who wish to share in the high school swim team experience.
Our swimmers range from junior varsity-level to very strong varsity-level swimmers, so there is a place for all swimmers who have acceptable levels of ability. Due to our geographic dispersion, only some members are able to practice together, whereas others are expected to find a suitable practice venue and train regularly with an established program, or practice on their own.
Our season runs from October through January; for athletes seeking year-round training opportunities, our swimmers are either actively involved in community swim teams or USA Swimming clubs. The HCYA Swim Team does not endorse a specific practice venue or swim club for training purposes; however, we are happy to help families locate a training venue in their area. In addition to meet participation, our team gathers for social functions, and our families always share a meal together after each meet. We find that our swimmers tremendously enjoy our post-meet time together and we encourage families to join in our team-building effort.
The team generally participates in a travel meet each season which proves to be a great learning experience and a fun, memorable event for our families. Like most teams, we encourage leadership through team captain positions, we maintain time standards for earning Varsity letters, and we keep a record board to establish goals for our participants. Given our coaches are members of the Texas Interscholastic Coaches Association (TISCA), we are fortunate to participate in TISCA invitational meets which are the highest level of competition open to students of home-directed education at this time. Through our TISCA affiliation, individual swimmers and relay teams have the opportunity to earn Private Division All-State honors. At the conclusion of the season, the team gathers in celebration at the annual team banquet to recognize the many accomplishments of our team.
To date, several members of our team have been recruited to swim at the collegiate level, including the University of Texas, Texas A&M University, the University of Houston, and Asbury University. HCYA Swimming provides a unique opportunity for students to share their individual skill sets, enhance time management skills, practice leadership, share the joys of being a member of a competitive team, and build their high school resumes for college and job applications. Above all, members of the HCYA Swim Team enjoy the gifts of fellowship and fun! Please visit our website at hcyaswimming.swimtopia.com for more information and to grab a glimpse of the fun we share!
